Dictate clinical notes without the cloud
The core story: Whisper on your Mac, not a “send audio to us” product. If PHI never leaves the machine, you are in a very different world than web-first dictation startups.
Where the text goes
Use VoiceType in Epic (via web or Citrix), in browser EHRs, in plain text scratch pads—anywhere a text field can receive input. Pasting behavior matches our normal app matrix.
Not legal advice, not a BAA. VoiceType does not position itself as a HIPAA “business associate” cloud service. Core speech recognition runs on-device and is not a hosted audio pipeline from us. That said, optional AI Polish can route text to a third-party model provider depending on your settings. For the strictest interpretation, disable AI Polish and use on-device polish only, and have compliance review the sub-processor list and your configuration.
Honest fit
We are a small, bootstrapped macOS app. If your organization needs enterprise BAAs, audit logs, and central admin, you may outgrow us—or pair VoiceType on-device with your own policies. If you are an individual clinician on a personal Mac who wants local fast dictation first, you are the happy path.
